Sri Lanka University Games- SLUG
The first Sri Lanka University Games, popularly known as SLUG, was held from16 to 24 in March1980 at the University of Peradeniya.
The founder of this important event was Mr. Lesley Handunge, the former Director of Physical Education, University of Peradeniya. Mr. Lesley Handunge, a proud product of University of Peradeniya was a skilled sportsman who had represented Sri Lanka twice in boxing at Olympic Games. Moreover, he led the Sri Lankan team at the World University Sports Festival at a number of international sports festivals. Mr. Handunge organized a sports fiesta among universities following the standards and the traditions of Olympic Games. Since then Sri Lankan universities have continued organizing this major event once in three years
