Inter University Online Chess Championships – 2021

The Inter University Online Chess Championships 2021 for Girls and Boys was held at the Tornelo Platform according to the Swiss System in 6 rounds on 6th and 7th November 2021. The match points system is used. Event was held with the participation of 28 teams(Boys 14 and Girls 14) from 14 Universities namely, Universities of Colombo, Peradeniya, Sri Jayewardenepura, Kelaniya, Moratuwa, Ruhuna, Jaffna, Eastern, Sabaragamuwa, Rajarata, Wayamba, Visual and Performing Arts, Uva Wellassa and one of the newest Universities Vavuniya University was in action.

Since with the pandemic situation, the Sri Lanka Universities Sports Association(SLUSA) was not able to organize any Sporting events for the University students. So, the SLUSA decided to hold the three possible events, Chess, Taekwondo and Karate. In the result of the decision, the University of Moratuwa organized the event on behalf of the Sri Lanka Universities Sports Association with the support of the Chess Federation of Sri Lanka.

University of Moratuwa scored full 12 points out of possible 12 points to win the Inaugural Inter University Online Men Chess Championship convincingly.

University of Colombo (Women) also had a great event, shared 10 points out of 12 possible points Though University of Ruhuna led the points table till the 4th round their loss against Sabaragamuwa University affected them in a bad way.

University of Peradeniya and University of  Sri Jayawardenapura placed 2nd and 3rd place in the Men’s Championship respectively while Sabaragamuwa University placed 3rd in the Women’s Championship.

Gotabaya Rajapakse, with effect from the 03 of January 2020. He was the President of Sri Lanka University Sports Association in 2009 and 2010.

Annual General Meeting 2022

Annual General Meeting – 2022 of Sri Lanka Universities Sports Association was successfully held on 21st of June 2022 at Eastern University, Sri Lanka. Dr. N. Rajeshwaran, Senior Lecturer, Department of Commerce, Eastern University, Sri Lanka was elected as the President of Sri Lanka Universities Sports Association. Mr. K.R.D.C. Rathnamudali, Director of Physical Education, University of Moratuwa was elected as the Secretary General.

IDUS 2021 – Football Juggling Challenge

The IDUS Football Juggling Challenge is organized in collaboration with the International Day of University Sport and is scheduled to be held as a virtual challenge where Football Lovers in SLUSA member universities can take part in. The grand finale and awarding ceremony of the challenge will be held on the 20th of September 2021 at the IDUS Celebration.
